Women in Science 2026 by ESDR
We are pleased to introduce Women in Science 2026 by ESDR, our awareness campaign aligned with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February).
This year, our campaign focuses on a critical and persistent challenge in medical research: the underrepresentation of women’s data in clinical studies.
By making this underrepresentation scientifically, visually, and socially visible, we seek to contribute to a future in which medical research better reflects the diversity of the patients it serves.
As part of the campaign, we feature interviews with two experts:
- Dr Sarah Preis, author of a systematic review on sex and gender differences (JEADV, March 2025, DOI:10.1111/jdv.20256)
- Hyatt Antognini Amin, Founder of TrialHer, a health research start-up dedicated to closing the gender health gap
We would be grateful for your support in amplifying this initiative by sharing, resharing, and engaging with the campaign content on social media (LinkedIn, Instagram, Bluesky, and X). Your engagement would significantly enhance the campaign’s visibility and help reinforce our commitment to inclusive and impactful science.

A call for contributions on the optimal formulation characteristics of therapeutic broad-spectrum sunscreen, received from the WHO.
In 2025, broad-spectrum sunscreen was added to the WHO Model Lists of Essential Medicines for skin cancer prevention in persons with albinism. However, formulation characteristics – such as active ingredients and their concentrations, optimal SPF, UVA and UVB protection and pharmaceutical forms – could not be defined at that time. Defining these formulation characteristics in the Essential Medicines List (EML) is important to support countries in selecting optimal sunscreen formulations for inclusion on national essential medicines lists and to guide public procurement.
To address this gap, the WHO has issued a call for contributions on the optimal formulation characteristics of therapeutic broad-spectrum sunscreen. Input received will inform a submission for consideration by the Expert Committee in 2027.
The objective is to ensure broad and inclusive outreach and to engage scientific and clinical experts; regulatory, public health, and industry actors; and community and civil society stakeholders with relevant expertise or lived experience.
Your expertise would be invaluable to this effort. Please feel free to circulate it within your network of individuals with relevant expertise.
